This was my local surf spot growing up. The one of the most beautiful sights anywhere when it is good. The problem is I’ve only seen it like this two-three times. When it goes off, though, it truly is a sight to behold. Massive waves held up forever by powerful offshore winds and shallow waters making for living room-sized barrels. That same wind that provides these cavernous, square tubes also make the water here frigid when all the other beaches in the area are in the high sixties to low seventies in farenheit. It was not uncommon for a couple dozen broken boards in a day. One guy kept going home until all his boards had met their fate, then borrowed a friend’s board and broke it too. This is a soft pastel painting I created for a fundraiser.
