First Catch

I was commissioned to draw this piece for a friend from a photo from a National Geographic. She said it was her favorite picture and she had kept it tucked away in her purse for years. I overheard her say that if a fire ever broke out in her house she would grab her kids and this painting. The soft pastels really worked well for this, especially in the sand covering his feet.
