Chasm
This is the archway underneath the Vasari Corridor that runs above the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, Italy. The Vasari Corridor was built in 1564 by Giorgio Vasari in only five months and served to link up the Pitti Palace, where the Grand Duke resided, with the Uffizi (or offices) where he worked. These days tours start in the Palazzo Vecchio, and move up through the Hall of 500 and some of the Medici private apartments, and then through the East Corridor of the present Uffizi Gallery to the Vasari Corridor proper, which is lined with hundreds of artist self portraits from the Uffizi collection.
I took this photo on an early October morning while roaming the streets by myself, taking in all these wonderful old pieces of history. It took a lot of time and patience to capture a moment without someone waking through the archway as this is a very crowded area of town. My photo Big Bike was taken less that ten yards from here down an unsuspecting, quiet little alleyway.
